Trust – Can’t Live With It, Can’t Live Without It
Hypothetical Discussion | Another RMBWA Event Trust – Can’t Live With It, Can’t Live Without It Nov 11, 2025 5:30 PM
We will engage in the thought provoking discussion centered around, "Trust—can’t live with it, can’t find it without work." This phrase doesn’t just capture a philosophical idea—it defines a lived paradox. Trust is both foundational and fragile, vital, and elusive. It underpins everything from global commerce to personal love, from community safety to political legitimacy. And yet, it isn’t guaranteed by status, slogans, or even sincerity. It must be earned, held, and—when lost—fought for. Because sociologically, trust is the hidden contract that lets society function. Economies stagnate without it. Communities fragment. Teams underperform. Democracy weakens. It is, quite literally, the social currency that powers cooperation.

The PERTH Trial – Plastic Exposure Reduction Transforms Health
Clinical Professor Michaela Lucas | Immunologist The PERTH Trial – Plastic Exposure Reduction Transforms Health Dec 05, 2025 12:15 PM

Come and join us for Rotary Fellowship and hear from our speaker, Immunologist/Immunopathologist and Clinician-Scientist Professor Michaela Lucas, on the results of her ground breaking research.

The PERTH Trial (Plastic Exposure Reduction Transforms Health) is a groundbreaking study exploring the impact of plastic chemicals on adult health. Focusing on chemicals like BPA and phthalates—known endocrine disruptors—the study examines their potential link to chronic diseases.

Through a seven-week assessment involving blood, urine, and stool sample analysis, as well as dietary recalls, the research aims to uncover common sources of plastic exposure in everyday life, how these chemicals are processed by the body, and their possible contribution to inflammation and long-term health risks.

This presentation will discuss outcomes of the study,
and describe the ongoing larger randomised clinical trial being conducted with volunteers living with bigger bodies.

Observing Vegetation Change and Climate Resilience from Space in Australia
Dr Qiaoyun Xie | Geospatial Scientist, UWA Observing Vegetation Change and Climate Resilience from Space in Australia Feb 06, 2026 12:15 PM

Dr Qiaoyun Xie will present an overview of how vegetation dynamics can be observed using satellites, and why it is especially important that we monitor vegetation response to climate variability and extremes in Australia.

Vegetation underpins ecosystem health and human wellbeing, yet its growth is limited by essential resources such as water, nutrients, light, and groundwater. Australia supports globally significant but often understudied ecosystems, while also sitting at the frontline of climate change, experiencing intensifying droughts and extreme rainfall. Understanding how vegetation resists, responds to, and recovers from these pressures is a critical scientific and societal challenge.

The talk will outline how vegetation dynamics are observed across scales, from field measurements and drones to satellites, using geospatial information to monitor growth, stress, and seasonal patterns. Dr Xie will illustrate these approaches through Australian case studies, including resilience along the North Australian Tropical Transect, legacy effects of extreme rainfall across drylands, and groundwater influences on Jarrah Forest health. Together, these examples show how Earth Observation helps us better understand and manage Australia’s changing landscapes.

The Pros of Cons | Supporting the Justice Impacted into Real Jobs
Anthony MacShane | Co-founder, Reboot Australia The Pros of Cons | Supporting the Justice Impacted into Real Jobs Feb 20, 2026 12:15 PM

Come and join us to hear from Anthony MacShane, Co-Founder and General manager of the national social enterprise – Reboot Australia.

Anthony built Reboot Australia because he knows how easily a life like his could have ended in a prison cell. Instead, he worked hard at being a better version of himself. He now leads a team that employs and mentors people leaving prison, proving that redemption isn’t just possible — it’s powerful.

This high-impact, pragmatic presentation will give you the knowledge, tools and confidence to tap into one of Australia’s most overlooked talent pools — people leaving prison and individuals with significant barriers to employment.

Built on eight years of Reboot Australia’s nationally recognised hands-on work, this presentation will blend up to date statistics, strategy and storytelling, to help leaders turn social procurement obligations into commercial wins while making an impact.
