Last Friday we enjoyed a stimulating presentation from our District Governor Dee Buckland.  She outlined her priorities for her tenure, and we found these to be very helpful and inspirational. We wish her well as she embarks on her Grand Progress through all the Rotary Clubs of the District. When Queen Elizabeth I went on her Royal Progresses throughout the Kingdom she was accompanied by a retinue of over 200 people. The cost of accommodating the whole company bankrupted many of the nobility who had to put them up and feed them for weeks on end in their country estates.  Fortunately Dee was accompanied only by her husband, who spoke eloquently and persuasively of the need to support indigenous health, which we will do.

Mikayla Mailey from Mercedes College represented our Club at the thirty-third Rotary 4-Way Test Speaking Contest Finals on 25 August at UWA. She won second place and qualifies for the State Finals on 19 September. We offer her our congratulations and wish her all the best for the final. We thank Manu and Kim for their work in organizing this event in our Club.  Rotarians are welcome to attend the finals, more details can be found by clicking on the following link -  https://trybooking.com/BTMCD

Do strain every nerve to come along to our Meeting this Friday, when the architect Kym MacCormac will be speaking, to be followed on Friday 17 September by our former Premier, Colin Barnett, to whose inspiration and persistence can be attributed the existence of Perth Stadium. It is a wonderful legacy of his Premiership and he will take us through the stages of its development.  Please click on the images below to be taken direct to the booking sites for your tickets to these club meetings

Our committees are working tirelessly to give reality to our core principles, and they are to be congratulated. We can have the best ideas in the world but if they don't turn into action they wither away. Contributing to the practical work of Rotary is a challenge, but it's also a privilege. With all the resources at our disposal we are in a unique position to become involved in projects that provide positive and lasting benefit in areas of human need.

Thank you all for your energy and commitment.   Each of you gives the Rotary Club of Perth its vitality.

President John.

NEWS From the Membership Portfolio:

We look forward to welcoming two more new members to the rank and file of the Perth Rotary Club in the very near future.

Louis Morris Kristopher,  a refugee child who grew up in a refugee camp in Uganda where he studied under trees, went on to attain bachelor’s degree in law at Charles Darwin University in the Northern Territory, Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice, Master’s degree in Legal Practice at the Australian National University in Canberra and Legal Practice Management Course at the College of Law WA.   Mr Kristopher is the owner and Legal Practitioner Director for Savannah Legal with current offices in Perth Brisbane and Adelaide. He practices in criminal law, immigration, family law and restraining orders.  Mr Kristopher was the Winner of the Young Criminal Lawyer - Hodge Award 2016 in recognition of his contributions to the practice of criminal law in Western Australia. Winner of professional excellence in legal practice Awarded by Afroshine Australia in 2019 - Africa Media Australia in Melbourne.

Linken Fragomeli - a tax accountant working predominately with corporate entities.  Ready to be part of a bigger cause and working as being part of a team, Rotary seems the right fit.  After attending the Rotary Means Business Networking events and digging a little deeper into the projects and impact of Rotary at club and international level, it became apparent to me that the more I found, the more I wanted to be a part of this global movement.  I look forward to having a positive impact; working in a team with a positive 'can-do' attitude and motivating others along the way.

Please make our new members welcome and get to know them.  If you are looking for a new team member on your committee, don't hesitate to reach out to anyone of our new members or contact Jill Dawson, Membership Chair via email - membership@rotaryperth.org.au
