Dear all

The AFL season has kicked off today with my support going to the purple army once again this year. I do know that we are not meant to talk politics and religion in Rotary so sports will hopefully keep us united and doesn’t get added to the list. As the NBA legend, LeBron James, said: “Don't be afraid of failure. This is the way to succeed”. I hope that quote comes true and we can have the “dream come true” moment in 2025. Good luck to all the participating teams!!

We had a fantastic lunch and a fundraiser on 7th March with Martin Crabb (CIO – Shaw and Partners) with his presentation topic: Signal vs Noise: Navigating Investment Markets in 2025. We had 44 attendees in total including the Shaw and Partners state team and PROST board members. Our goal was to raise at least $5,000 with a matching donation from Shaw and Partners Foundation.  We have in fact raised $7,700 in cash donations with a matching grant from Shaw and Partners.   I want to thank each and every Rotarian and Guest who donated towards this fundraiser.  Your generosity knows no bounds and has greatly assisted us in moving towards our goal of $40,000, which is the amount I have pledged to raise in support of PROST.

Help us reach our goal!

There’s still a mountain of work to be done, and we need your support. If you're willing to contribute by collecting 10 cent cans, it’s simple! Just save the QR code below to your phone, then scan it at any “Containers for Change” site in WA to donate the funds to PROST.

Every little bit helps, and together we can make a big difference!

We meet next on the 21st March with the panel discussion including 6 Rotarians from RI District 5300 VVT. The panelists will cover a wide range of topics including family violence, homelessness, trafficking and the substance which aligns well with our club projects, Passages and Path of Hope. I DO HAVE A REQUEST TO THE MEMBERS: We have been working hard with Parmelia Hilton on confirming the final numbers for each lunch and they have requested the confirmed attendees latest by the close of business Tuesday of the lunch week. If you have noticed recently, the booking link for club lunch meetings closes on Tuesday afternoon by 3pm and the Club Services team have tried to accommodate everyone as much as possible (we do have 100% success rate so far).

What will really help in managing this requirement from the Parmelia Hilton Hotel, will be if the members wishing to attend the lunch can kindly book before Tuesday afternoon so we can still take a few walk ins and guests as last-minute attendees.  One of the reasons for me to send the newsletter earlier so you all have a reminder to book over the weekend.

Our next club meeting is Friday 21 March.  Please book by 3pm Tuesday 18 March.

Regards,
Manu

A note regarding the District Conference 28 - 30 March 2025

Finally, District Conference from 28th to 30th March in Margaret River. I believe we have 7 club members already registered to attend and I am hoping to have a few more to register in the next week or so.

I am taking my family for a mini get away for the weekend so look forward to mingling with lots of Rotarians over the weekend and not forgetting, secretly I am planning to visit a winery or two off course for a nice lunch with the family but if they have a good red, I will try that too!! HYDE PARK FESTIVAL ROUND-UP : Perth Rotarians were out in force at the Hyde Park Festival.  Wesley Sim once again representing Shelterbox Australia.   Shelterbox Australia believes that every family "deserves a place to call home after a disaster".  In order to ensure this is possible, funds are raised, emergency shelter kits and essential items are stored or located in strategic locations around the world so they can be accessed easily and quickly.  Shelterbox works with strategic partners to get the help where it is required.  Shelterbox teams will reach the disaster area by any means necessary, on foot, boat, helicopter or tuk-tuk.  The important thing is that they get there!  Rebecca Tolstoy, Ray Simpson and the Path of Hope Team brought the Wonder of Alice in Wonderland to life with an opportunity for brave adventurers to step into Wonderland and enjoy a time of creativity; teamwork, magic and fun.  A special thank you to Ray Simpson for coordinating the volunteers and our very own RYE Exchange Student Abby and Host Mum Kathryn for dressing up in theme.  The booth provided an opportunity for the community to solve riddles, explore hidden treasures, and most importantly, learn about kindness, courage, and the power of choice.  Graham Peden and David Wee manned the Tiny Homes stand along with the District Homeless Hub Committee.  Tiny Homes is a transitional housing project for young Western Australians turning 18 who do not have a home.  Tiny Homes will provide a safe and affordable housing option for a young person at risk of becoming homeless.  A huge shoutout to the North Perth Rotary Club who organise the event and enable Rotary Clubs such as Perth to bring their projects to the wider community's attention and create opportunity for discussion and volunteering at a grass roots level.   THANK YOU to all of our volunteers and Rotarians who gave up a small or large part of their long weekend to promote our Rotary Projects in the Community.
