Dear all

We are in the final quarter of the Rotary year which means I am already seeing the finish line to 30th June as PE Jill Dawson gears up for taking over as the 99th President of the club. We concluded our board meeting last night and I can only assure you that we have some great ideas and discussions being held as we embark on a journey towards our Centenary Year. I want each and every Rotarian to be proud of their association and contribution to Rotary and be part of this journey as I, myself, have never been a part of an organisation that is 100 year old. That basically means that as Rotarians, we have served the West Australian community for almost 100 years. I share with all our charter certificate dating back to 15th April 1927.

District Conference just concluded in Margaret River and our club was well represented with PP Wes Sim from ShelterBox and RYE Abby Lin being a RYE panelists getting a chance to be up on the stage representing Perth Rotary. We had quite a lot of inspirational speakers (32 that I counted) and it was a proud moment for me to call myself a Rotarian and being part of a truly amazing organisation. Next year, the District Conference is being held in Avon Valley so I do hope to see lots of club members in attendance. Not so much of a good wine region so we will have to just do it with the hot air ballooning for the weekend.
We have been contacted by District 9620 and 9560 to help flood victims in Western Queensland.   Individuals wishing to donate to support the cause can donate either to the District 9560 Disaster Fund Account or to Rotary Foundation Disaster Response Fund.

How you can help

There are two ways you can support these efforts and be sure that the funds will help directly:
  • Donate to the District 9560 Disaster Fund Account (NO tax deductibility, therefore suitable for club and district donations, for immediate funding availability) - BSB 633000 and Account Number 186414595
and/or
  • Donate to the Rotary Foundation Disaster Response Fund (WITH tax deductibility in Australia, therefore suitable for individuals, in support of the Disaster Response Grant application that is being prepared by the districts) Donate Here

We do plan to have an informal gathering of the members in the week of Anzac Day as there will be no formal lunch meeting on 18th April being a Good Friday (public holiday). There will be a separate email being sent by the Fellowship Chair to organise a meeting for later in April.

We meet next on 2nd May at our lunch meeting at Parmelia Hilton. Our guest speaker is Associate Professor Brioni Moore from Curtin University and she will be presenting on how a Perth Rotary grant is funding a novel new study investigating whether African Mahogany may be the next weapon to fight the global scourge of Malaria. I look forward to seeing you on 2nd May at Parmelia Hilton if not at the fellowship event later in April.

Kind regards,
Manu Gupta

Help us reach our goal!

There’s still a mountain of work to be done, and we need your support. If you're willing to contribute by collecting 10 cent cans, it’s simple! Just save the QR code below to your phone, then scan it at any “Containers for Change” site in WA to donate the funds to PROST.

I will hopefully have the final figures for the funds raised together with Shaw and Partners Foundation contribution at our 7th March luncheon to the members in my next newsletter.  I can proudly say that this is why I joined Rotary and the Rotarians I want to know and connect with because when it comes to giving, they all come together for the philanthropic effort of generosity.

Every little bit helps, and together we can make a big difference!

I DO HAVE A REQUEST TO THE MEMBERS: We have been working hard with Parmelia Hilton on confirming the final numbers for each lunch and they have requested the confirmed attendees latest by the close of business Tuesday of the lunch week. If you have noticed recently, the booking link for club lunch meetings closes on Tuesday afternoon by 3pm and the Club Services team have tried to accommodate everyone as much as possible (we do have 100% success rate so far).

What will really help in managing this requirement from the Parmelia Hilton Hotel, will be if the members wishing to attend the lunch can kindly book before Tuesday afternoon so we can still take a few walk ins and guests as last-minute attendees.  One of the reasons for me to send the newsletter earlier so you all have a reminder to book over the weekend.

Our next club meeting is Friday 4 April.  Please book by 3pm Tuesday 1 April 2025.

Regards,
Manu
