Hello Members and Friends of Perth Rotary,

I have spent the last week in Hobart with my family as we celebrated the 1st birthday of our daughter, Mansha.

I had the opportunity to attend the lunch at Rotary Club of Hobart that is a little older than our club, having celebrated their 100th year earlier this year. I bought a triple distilled Tasmanian single Malt whisky from the club that they used for the Centenary year celebration and hope to share it with some of you in the coming weeks.

I understand why our club is called the “business club” of WA after witnessing similar themes with the Rotary Club of Hobart and the history it has over the last 100 years.

I am looking forward to seeing many of you at this Friday’s lunch to hear from Joe White, Immediate Past President of REIWA, as our guest speaker.

It will be an interesting presentation as we have seen WA property market outperforming most of the major cities in Australia over the last 12 months and what does the future hold to keep the momentum going and understand the economics behind the local real estate market.  If you are yet to book, please click on the following link and join us - https://www.trybooking.com/CVWNX

Past President Jeff Leach will also be speaking to members about the importance of Men's health, specifically checking your PSA levels for Prostate Cancer.  An insidious disease that affects so many of our Fathers, Husbands, Sons, Uncles, Grandfathers = our much loved men folk.   Perth Rotary Club members walked in support of raising awareness of Prostate Cancer, Sunday 29 September 2024.  Jeff will be announcing the funds raised from "The Long WALK" and inviting members to join us again in 2025 as we continue to support the Prostate Cancer Foundation.   If you would still like to donate to the Perth Rotary Team, please click on the following link - https://www.thelongrun.org.au/fundraisers/theperthrotaryclub/the-long-run-2024

Why I'm Doing It

I’d like to introduce an important upcoming event that I have been asked to be involved with and ask for your support. On Friday evening, October 25th, and also over that weekend I’ll be participating in a ping pong fundraising event to raise awareness about modern slavery and human trafficking. These are serious issues affecting many young people, who are being trafficked into dangerous and illegal situations. In many instances these are young people both boys and girls not unlike me.

My goal is to raise 500 AUD, which will go directly to organizations helping these innocent victims of slavery. I am incredibly fortunate to be supported by my family and the Rotary Club of Perth during my exchange year, and now I would like to help those who are not as lucky as me. I believe we can make a difference together by giving these individuals a chance at a safer future.

There are more slaves in our world than at any other time in history. This must END! Please help me reach my goal by sponsoring me in Ping Pong-A-Thon (a table tennis event that supports the work of several amazing organisations committed to protecting and caring for young people impacted by modern day slavery). Every young person deserves to live a life that is FREE!

Thanks so much for your support.  Perth Rotary Club RYE Student, Abby.

              •            Anna Young
              •            Lauren Lim
              •            Kush Kotecha
              •            Xinwei Chen

Their passion and commitment have made an invaluable impact on our Rotary Project - Path of Hope Foundation, and together with our volunteers and long-time supporters like you, they are helping to build healthier relationships and a brighter future for those affected by family violence. 💙

We also want to take this opportunity to extend our thanks to those of you who have supported us over the years. Your continued support means the world to us and to the many individuals and families who benefit from your volunteering and support in many ways.

A special thank you to our partners at The University of Western Australia (“UWA”) and the McCusker Centre for Citizenship for their continued collaboration in fostering this impactful program.

As we reflect on today’s success, we look forward to the future, knowing that with your support, we can continue driving HOPE and a meaningful change in the lives of those affected by family violence.
