Dear Perth Rotary Members and Friends,

Rotary Four-Way Speaking Competition

We recently hosted the first heat of the Four-Way Speaking Competition, an event for Year 10 students that helps them develop their public speaking skills and confidence. The competition challenges students to consider Rotary's Four-Way Test as they prepare their speeches. This test was first introduced to Rotary WA by Past District Governor Fred Marsh during his tenure in 1988/89.

The Rotary Four-Way Test asks the following questions:

  1. Is it the truth?

  2. Is it fair to all concerned?

  3. Will it build goodwill and better friendships?

  4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

The Competition Heats Up!

The first heat of the Four-Way Speaking Competition was a resounding success, featuring impressive speakers from St Georges Anglican Grammar School, Mercedes College, and Ashdale Secondary College.  A huge congratulations to Izabella from St Georges Anglican Grammar School, who has advanced to the semifinals!

Join us as we support Izabella at the next round, which will be hosted by the Rotary Club of Scarborough at the Scarborough Surf Life Saving Club on August 21st.   Be there for a prompt 7:15 a.m. start—the event runs from 6:45 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. sharp.    For more information, please contact Jon Stokes at jon.m.stokes@hotmail.co.uk or 0416 480 479.

Celebrating our very own Marathon Man - Manu Gupta

A huge congratulations to Manu Gupta, who recently completed the San Francisco Marathon while on holiday in the United States!

Running up hills and down again, Manu not only conquered the challenging course but even carried Mansha across the finish line. It has been a long-held ambition of Manu to run the San Francisco Marathon and he is justifiably  proud of his accomplishment, as are we.

Fun Fact: The official marathon distance of 42.195 kilometers (26.2 miles) is the purported distance a Greek messenger ran from Marathon to Athens to announce victory against the Persians. The distance was standardized after the 1908 Olympics.

Perth Rotary Fellowship | Bonfire Night

Helen and Jeff Leach once again opened their Gingin farm to Rotarians, family, and friends for a fantastic night of music, shared food, and a roaring bonfire.  Despite the blustery weather, we eventually managed to get the bonfire going, proving that a little perseverance (and a lot of teamwork!) can go a long way. The party then moved to the shed, where we were all treated to a rocking performance by the Rotars, Perth Rotary's very own band.

As always, Helen was the perfect hostess, with every detail planned to perfection—from the chairs and tablecloths to the all-important portable loo!

This annual event is always a highlight of our fellowship calendar, offering a wonderful chance to escape the city, enjoy the country air, and have some fun with our fellow Rotarians.  We cannot thank Helen and Jeff, along with Ashley, Brendan, Ian, and their fellow band members, enough.

Centenary Merchandise

In the meantime, you can show your support and pride by ordering our special Centenary Shirts and Caps.

Please click on the following link to place your order: https://shop.fullypromoted.com.au/perthrotary. You have the option of ordering shirts in either Blue/Yellow or White/Navy color combinations. A special thank you to Ashley Whitworth for his dedication in developing the logo and ensuring these items are available at an affordable price.

For members of other Rotary clubs, Ashley can also include your club's logo in place of Perth Rotary's. The Centenary of 100 years of Rotary Service to Western Australia is a celebration for all in WA Rotary, and we encourage everyone to join us in marking this significant milestone.

Kind regards,
