Dear all
I can’t believe that January 2025 has already gone by, and we are in the second month of the year. We kicked off with Lunar New Year celebration at our first lunch meeting on 7 February 2025 with Abby Lin (Rotary Youth Exchange) and Past President Wes Sim conducting the session as the speakers. We welcomed Dr Yu (Roger) Dong as member nominee and International visiting Rotarians, Teresa Romani Gonzales Vda de Diaz of Rotary Club Pachacamac. District 4455- Lima- Peru and Kelly Fitzsimons of Rotary Club of Teddington and the Hamptons (London, UK).
We then had a special movie night on Valentine’s Day (14th Feb 2025) as we were hosted by Rotarian Kathryn Wackett and her husband Andrew in their backyard. We were treated to amazing gourmet pizza baked freshly in the woodfired oven; paella; popcorn and ice creams before settling down to watch a movie. It was a long day at work being a Friday and before I could even think of planning something special for Harsha, I decided to book the tickets to the movie night and that was my Valentine’s evening sorted. Rotary does come to help when you need it most of the times!!

I can say this confidently that the momentum is building with some really good member inductees lining up and President Elect Jill Dawson getting in action well ahead of the start to her Presidency year. We also have PP Wesley Sim & PP Ray Della-Polina planning a trip to Bali, April 2025 to re-visit the various projects we have on the go - from Plastic Free Bali to a global grant to provide a mobile screening unit for Cervical Cancer early detection in women living remotely. This international trip is followed by another equally worthwhile trip, this time to Cambodia, specifically to visit the Cambodia Family Support Projects supported by the Perth Rotary Club. Emma Cork is working with PP Wesley Sim to take a team to Cambodia, our first trip back since Covid hit in 2020.
There are a lot of events planned allowing various opportunities for our members, friends and colleagues to connect with the club in one format or another. I always appreciate club members who support Rotary and I request you all to dedicate a few hours a month to spend at Rotary with your fellow Rotarians.
Our next lunch at Parmelia Hilton is scheduled for this coming Friday, 21st February with Mark Naglazas presenting on “When Hollywood Gets Ready To Invade The Wild West”. The booking link has closed, however, if you are keen to attend, please email Club Services direct - clubservice@rotaryperth.org.au to register your interest.
Please don’t forget the District Conference from 28th till 30th March – booking link https://www.trybooking.com/CUWGS We aim to have a minimum or ten Perth Rotarians at the Conference. Please let us know if you will be attending.
A note from the Conference Committee....

We are pleased to invite you to the Rotary Western Australia District Conference to be held from the 28th of March to 30th March 2025 at the Heart Entertainment Centre in Margaret River.
Our Conference will bring together keynote speakers from Rotary industry, academia, and government to discuss current future challenges and opportunities we face as a State and for Rotary as a community service organisation. We believe that attending this conference will provide you with an opportunity to gain insights and learn from the best in the field, while providing opportunities to network with other Rotarians. One highlight of the Conference will be a Saturday night concert and picnic at the Sound Shelter adjoining the Heart. Registration for the conference is now open. The cost of a full registration is $295 with partners paying $80 for Friday night drinks and Saturday night.
I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at lunch this Friday,
Regards,
Manu

Some GREAT news from Vinnies WA and Passages - Hub for Homeless Youth....

Vinnies WA are thrilled to share that the Western Australian Government has committed a one-off funding of $475,000 to support our Passages Youth Engagement Hub in Perth. This significant contribution reflects the government’s recognition of the vital role Passages plays in providing at-risk youth with essential services, guidance, and a safe space to access support. Passages Youth Engagement Hub, a joint initiative of the St Vincent de Paul Society WA and the Rotary Club of Perth, has been a cornerstone in supporting young people experiencing homelessness or facing other life challenges. The hub offers practical assistance such as meals, shower facilities, and access to healthcare services, as well as pathways to education, employment, and long-term housing solutions.
The funding will help Passages continue to deliver these critical services, ensuring vulnerable young people in Perth have the support they need to rebuild their lives. This investment will also contribute to expanding outreach efforts and enhancing the overall impact of our youth engagement programs.
Vinnies WA extend their sincere thanks to Minister John Carey and the WA State Government for t heir generous support and commitment to helping vulnerable young people through this vital funding.
Perth Rotary Club have a Vocational Visit to Passages to see how the funding will benefit the Hub and what more we can do to support the essential work that is carried out each day. Please save the date - Friday 11 April in your diaries. The visit to Passages will be from 2.30pm - 4.00pm. We are in the process of finalising all other details, which will then enable us to open the booking link for your registration. $0 cost event - however, we need to know who to expect.
