This week our thoughts and prayers are with the people of the Ukraine – with those who have fled their homes; with those who have nowhere to turn for security; with those who have remained and are facing destruction and possible death; with those who are determined to resist the invasion of their homeland by force of arms.
We remember, too, those Russians for whom this act of terrorism is against their wishes and contrary to their desire for a time of peace and prosperity, and are distressed to see their country being led into violent and unjustifiable warfare.
We remember the leaders of the Western alliances, who must now decide how and when to commit the resources of their respective countries in support of the beleaguered Ukraine.
And we pray for peace.
There’s an old prayer that ‘s worth remembering:
Kindle in the hearts of all people the true love of peace so that nation shall no longer lift up sword against nation, neither learn war any more. Guide those who take counsel for the nations of the earth, that all may live in tranquillity and prosperity, without fear of persecution or destruction.
All this, we pray.
John Shepherd.
