Dear Perth Rotary Members & Friends,

Whilst one usually associates the "Silly Season" with the months of November/December, we are about to enter the Rotary "Silly Season".  SO please get your diaries out and take note as there is a lot of events and projects coming to fruition over the next 6 - 8 weeks.  It greatly assists those of us who are coordinating events, if members and friends could please rsvp (even if you are unable to attend).  This will significantly reduce the number of email traffic and stress behind the scenes.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

34th HYDE PARK FAIR | Brought to the Community by The Rotary Club of North Perth had to cancel their planned activities for Monday 1 March due to the unseasonal stormy weather.  I am sure it was a great disappointment to the organising committee who placed a lot of their time and themselves into the planning of this event, however their consideration and care for the safety of the public was at the forefront of their decision making.  Perth Rotary through the efforts of Ray Simpson and Rebecca Tolstoy AM were able to promote the work of the Path of Hope Foundation providing hope and raising awareness of families who experience family domestic violence on day one of the fair.  We thank Ray in particular for his efforts in organising the volunteers to man the tent.  On behalf of all club members, we greatly appreciate the work and efforts of North Perth RC and our own volunteers who specifically worked on the Path of Hope Stall.

We have another HUGE opportunity to volunteer in our community and participate in the ultimate BACKYARD CRICKET MATCH.  This is an inaugural event and set to be the highlight of the 2021 calendar.

The cricket match will take place on Saturday 20th March in Government House Gardens, The Pirate Ship Foundation invites ALL ROTARIANS to join them for a backyard cricket match like no other.

The Governors 11 captained by the Hon Kim Beazley AC, Governor of Western Australia and Patron of Rotary WA will take on the Pirates 11 captained by the Head of Oncology at Perth Children’s Hospital Dr Nick Gottardo, in a celebrity-studded, family-fun day to raise much needed funds for The Pirate Ship Foundation.  The event is supported by Channel 9, 6PR, the WACA and Colgan Industries as well as many incredibly supportive individuals and businesses in our community.  This will be a day to remember for all West Australians.

PERTH ROTARY Club & Past District Governor Graham Peden is leading our effort to support the Pirate Ship Foundation in their efforts to raise funds for children affected by Brain Cancer.  WE NEED YOU to help support our effort on a weekend which is extraordinarily busy for all club members.  Please check below for a list of volunteer positions we are looking to fill. If you are able to volunteer your time, please don’t hesitate to contact PDG Graham or myself direct.   We are looking for 135 people to help us, so please gather all of your family and friends - perhaps a work place volunteer outing and come and support our efforts to make life a little easier for children who have brain cancer.

As previously mentioned, March is an incredibly busy month.  Upcoming Events for the month of March are:

Walk Free is the producer of the world’s leading dataset on measuring and understanding slavery, and works towards system change through government, business, and faith, to ensure slavery is tackled through both a legal and cultural framework.
