ROTARY PATH TO PEACE

AN INSPIRATION TO STRIVE FOR PEACE

Many years ago, John Lennon urged our world to “live as one.”

He touched a global heart  that has continued to dream of and work towards his vision  ever since.
Rotary and the United Nations Association of Australia seek to support his vision with their new shared project, Rotary Path to Peace.

AN INSPIRATION TO STRIVE FOR PEACE, HAVING REFLECTED ON THE VICTIMS OF ALL TYPES OF VIOLENCE

This project will create paths of contemplation and reflection to inspire change. It tackles the difficult but vital task of changing the behaviour of fellow humans around the globe from anger and violence to mutual respect. Achieving this will remove the causes of war and violence at all levels from families to nations, leading to safe and fulfilling lives for all.

Positive Peace.

Implementation requires support from many sources. Perth Rotary welcomes working in partnership with the United Nations Association of Australia WA Branch.

“Path” has two meanings. Primarily it is the internal path each individual follows in learning ways that human behaviour can change from violence in any form to mutual respect, and then committing themselves to working for peace.

Secondly it is the physical path that enables individuals to find the information needed to stimulate their proceeding down the internal path. In order to make this available to many people, physical pathways are required in many locations.

Thus the intention is to create the first physical path in a location that is both visited by many people and is conducive to contemplation, then once that is done and evaluated, replicate it in many such locations, incorporating modifications indicated by the lessons learned.

For each location the specific design would be discussed and agreed with the site owner. The two essential ingredients are:

  1.  One or more physical plaques or signs that attract viewers to the topic and containing a QR code or other device that directs them to the formation accessible via their mobile phone
  2.  The actual information and challenge.
Expert assistance is needed in creation of both the physical and digital elements.

There are several organisations, including Rotary and the UNAAWA that have been working towards the goal of peace for many years.  The details of these organisations and their methods will form part of the information provided via the information to be downloaded to viewers smart phones.

Your help in identifying more such organisations, or contributing to the project in any way will be welcomed and valued.
