Emmalena Huning (violin)
Emmalena has just graduated from St Hilda's Anglican School for Girls and is auditioning to study at overseas conservatories from 2019. She started learning violin at the age of four and currently studies with Paul Wright (our concertmaster this year). 
She has won many first prizes and awards and was a finalist in the National Youth Concerto Competition, the Kendall National Violin Competition, and the Osaka International Music Competition.
She is engaged to perform the Sibelius Violin Concerto in New Zealand in 2019 and was concertmaster of the  WA Youth Orchestra in 2017 and 2018.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
William Hu (piano)
William returns as the Vienna Pops Rising Star after his highly successful performance in the 2016 New Year’s Eve concert. William  has just graduated from Christchurch Grammar School and studies with Mark Coughlan. He started learning piano at the age of five and plays violin and saxophone as well as piano and also writes his own compositions. 
William won third place in 2013 Golden Key international young composer competition in Vienna and won 1st place in American Protege International Music Talent Competition and subsequently was invited to play in Carnegie Hall in New York. William has been awarded 5 Medals in the Australia Mathematics Competition, and represented Australia in the 2017 and 2018 for International Mathematical Olympiads and Asia Pacific Mathematics Olympiads.
He has an interest in puzzles and has become a paid designer for published pen-and-paper puzzles, mechanical puzzles produced by woodworkers, and digital puzzles featured in games.
